Reading 9/14-9/18

Monday: Introduce “Folktales, Fantasy, and Science Fiction Elements” .  Students will take notes on the characteristics of the following genres: fairytales, tall tales, legends, myths, animal tales, fantasy, science fiction

Tuesday: Review characteristics of a myth.  Read (as a class) “Daedalus and Icarus” from Open Court (p. 116) Discuss how this story falls under the category myth.  Give examples in notes of each characteristic in the story.

Wednesday: Review characteristics of a folktale.  Read (as a class) “Salt” from Open Court anthologies (p. 188). Discuss how this story falls under the category folktale.  Give examples in notes of each characteristic in the story.

Thursday: Review characteristics of a fantasy. Read (as a class) “Escape” from Open Court Anthologies (p. 66).  Discuss how this story falls under the category fantasy.  Give examples in notes of each characteristic in the story.

Friday: Review characteristics of an adventure. Read (as a class) Riki Tiki Tavi.  Discuss how this story falls under the category adventure.  Give examples in notes of each characteristic in the story.
